Larna Grossi is a
lifelong resident of Rhode Island, spending the
better part of her life in Smithfield and now
resides in Burrillville. She has been an advocate
for spay/neuter education for animals all over New
England. She was involved in legislation, banning
the gas chamber in Rhode Island in the last
remaining shelters. She spoke on behalf of the
importance of embracing and appreciating foster care
parents, when legislation for a 3 cat minimum was
imposed on one of the local towns. She has been
actively involved in trapping, spaying/neutering and
safely releasing feral cats all over Rhode Island
and nearby Massachusetts for the last 10 years.
Larna has been involved in the North
Providence Animal Shelter for over 20 years. She is
involved in maintaining the health of shelter
animals and scheduling veterinary appointments when
needed. Each spring and summer she bottle-feeds
dozens of litters of orphan kittens, socializing and
weaning them to insure they can be adopted into
loving homes.
As of October of 2003 she has also
taken on the role of Volunteer Coordinator at North
Providence Animal Shelter. Interviewing and insuring
suitability for each volunteer, and training each of
them in shelter policies, protocols and safety.
As of December of 2004 she has also
started and oversees the Foster Care Program at
North Providence Animal Shelter. This program is
vital to having the animals socialized. She
maintains and keeps record of all animals in Foster
Care and all of the Foster Care individuals.
Larna has implemented a new computer
filing system which maintains all of the towns
spay/neuter updates in compliance with Rhode Island
General Law and the Department of Environmental
Management.
She is also a huge advocate for pit
bulls and opposes and educates on BSL (Breed
Specification Legislation).
Larna currently shares her home with
several rescued cats that are now indoors only,
spayed and neutered, inoculated and most importantly
safe, happy and healthy.
Larna's favorite quote which she
tries to live by is....
"Have
a heart that never hardens
A temper that
never tires
And a touch
that never hurts."
~Charles Dickens
