Projects

This kitten is from a very large feral cat colony which was first discovered by my previous Secretary/Treasurer, Lynn. With Lynn's help and the help and dedication of many others, we have put an end to most of the breeding in this colony. We are still not finished yet, and have a lot of work to do before all of the cats and kittens are spayed/neutered but we are making progress.

This colony has people that feed them and water them daily, give them shelter from the cold and hot weather and provide them with somewhat of a life, the only life that they know.

Of the cats that have been TNR (Trapped/Neutered/Released) most have been released back to the colony because they cannot be socialized to be in a house, with families and live like a house cat. BUT....these cats don't deserve to die because they have been thrown into this life. They deserve to live out their lives the way that they know. We have just stopped them from breeding and adding more cats and kittens into the colony.

There have been several cats that were just dumped and were pets to someone who has since discarded them as trash. These cats show they are NOT feral to us immediately and we do not return them to the wild.

We do not release the  KITTENS back after they are neutered/spayed, treated for worms, ear mites, fleas, eye infections and upper respiratory infections. Kittens will socialize easier with the help of foster care parents who dedicate time to showing them a life within a home is. They don't know what a vacuum cleaner is or what a ringing phone sounds like. All of these things are very scary to them at first. But with time, patience and love they become beautiful, playful and affectionate cats. Like Goliath, in the picture below.

Once the kittens are socialized and comfortable around people and the normal everydayness of a home, we then set out to find loving, indoor only homes for them!

I have tried to help this colony and allow them to live their lives without being euthanized just because they are not living what "normal" people would consider a cat's life should be. This may not be the BEST life for them, but they did not come to this by choice. Someone threw ONE cat there years ago, and this is the result of what happens when show irresponsible ownership and do not neuter and spay our animals.....

In closing I would like to thank all of the people that have made this possible for me to continue this project. Without they're help, I would not be able to lay my head on the pillow at night and close my eyes and sleep. I owe a huge thanks to all of them:

**Mary, Goliath (in crate), Linda and Kerwin**

Kerwin and Goliath were taken from the largest colony of feral cats that I have ever worked with in 25 years of doing this....With the help of my dedicated trapper Brenda and loyal foster Mom Diane, we were able to trap and socialize these beautiful kittens who had known only living in the woods and sleeping on the ground, to being loved and taken care.

After many months of trying to find the perfect home, these two wonderful women came forward and realized how precious and special these kittens were and decided to adopt them into they're home. Although Goliath (renamed Samson) was unable to be handled, they still adopted him so that he could be kept together with his brother Kerwin. Linda and her Mother Mary have given these little boys a home they so deserved. They will live together, be safe, warm, fed, loved and live like most kitties do.

For the rest of the kittens in the colony, life for them is still laying on the ground and eating food left by "feeders". My goal is to find homes for all the kittens in this colony, to give them the chance they deserve and to live as kittens do and to grow into well adjusted, indoor only happy adults. There is still so much work to do, but happy endings like this is what keeps me going forward each day, with a goal for ALL of these special colony kittens.

  • To the "feeders" of the colony....Thank you for your daily dedication and love for all these cats and kittens.
  • My heartfelt thanks to Diane, Mary and Linda.
  • And to Orry, who I never had the pleasure of knowing....A special kitty who has gone on and allowed Linda a place in her heart for two special kitties. My thanks and much peace to you.
