July 2010
- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This is Hartford. He came to me via a FACEBOOK friend and her daughter who had found him on Hartford Avenue in Johnston. All alone and just days old, his eyes were not open and he was completely defenseless. Kelly and Miranda Tresca came with Hartford, formula and towels as I had asked of them. The first few days were very dangerous....he ate well, but he was not going to the bathroom which worried me. Finally after 6 days, he went....and from then on he was an extremely healthy, happy and mischievous kitten! He lives here with my others and is very good friends with Tazzie and Captain Jack, who are the youngest of the other cats.

Hartford is such a loving and affectionate kitty. He is always into all sorts of trouble and keeps me on my toes daily! I adore him and thank Kelly and Miranda for bringing him to me.

Hartford and I snuggling.

~Late August, Bottle Fed kittens 2009~
- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

These kittens were found in a backyard. The person who owned the home was feeding a stray and had intentions of spaying her and taking her in, but then found out she was pregnant. She took care of her, but couldn't get her into the house. She had her kittens outside and two weeks after giving birth to them, she was killed by a car and the kittens were left orphaned. One died, three remained.

I bottle-fed them for 2 weeks. They were all very stubborn and did not want to suck from the bottle. Every feeding was more and more difficult. At 5 weeks old I decided to wean them and put them onto the wet food. Two of them loved it. The smallest of them, still would not eat. I took him to the Dr.'s and was told not to get attached, that he probably wouldn't make it....I wasn't accepting that and worked day and night to keep him alive. At 7 weeks old, he was finally healthy and was out of danger. After further Dr's visits we found out he was a "she"!!! hahahaaha.....

What a hard time this litter gave me. I opened the crate every 3 hours to feed and prayed each time that they were all still alive. This spring/summer was a hard hit for me. I lost 5 litters out of 11 this year....so many lives lost, never having a chance to find a good life.

I embrace the kittens I saved this year, more then other years. This has been a mentally and physically draining year for me....

I have found wonderful homes for all of them, and they are all very happy and healthy!

~Captain Jack~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder, November 18th 2008

This handsome little boy is Capt. Jack! He came to me with just one other sibling, they both had severe eye infections. They were both treated, but only Gizmo recovered....Jack, did not. His infection was too far gone, and at only 16 days old his eye prolapsed and then atrophied. That eye had lost sight, forever. Now, we had to wait until Jack was old enough and weighed enough to be able to endure surgery to remove the eye. It was a very expensive surgery, and it was very important that he could fight off any infection if it occurred afterwards. We decided that it would be best to do the neuter and eye removal at the same time, so Jack waited until he was 5 months old for his big surgery day.

Jack's surgery was successful and he is now a very active, very happy boy! He lives here, with our other kitties and he thrives and grows everyday that passes. We are so lucky and blessed to have such a handsome and loving little man. He is truly a special little boy.

~Sinatra~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder, January 2008

This handsome boy is Chaos aka Sinatra. He was a declawed, purebred Chocolate Siamese. He was found by a nice couple who had just recently moved here to RI from Maine. They had quite a surprise to see that homeless kitties were living in they're rotting out shed. Like any kind person, they started feeding them and sheltering them on they're back steps. After realizing that 2 of them were declawed, we needed to get them inside right away!

Linda, the caretaker of the kitties contacted several people without any help. Finally, she found PETS of NE's website and called me.
After a few weeks of searching for help, we finally found room in the shelter for Sinatra. Linda and her husband trusted in me to keep him safe and find him a forever home, which he so deserved. With lots of hesitation and worry....they left him in my care. I promised to get him a home, one that would be strictly indoors.

Sinatra is now in a loving, indoor only home with a very caring woman. He will be loved and safe for all of his days!

We are still working on the other two kitties at this home, they are feral and will be a little more difficult to help...but, before the spring they will be done!

~The last bottle-fed kittens of the 2007 season~

This was yet another litter, actually two litters. Sybil, the brown stripped girl wasn't a part of the gray litter. She came to me with her sister via my friend Brenda from Woonsocket. Sadly, her sister died the first night she was here. She was the runt and she was extremely weak and dehydrated, I tried to save her....but she was too sick.

The other 3 kittens came via Darren Barnes, the ACO at my shelter. These kittens were about 1 week younger then Sybil but they were all very healthy, thankfully! These kittens were SO stubborn in weaning!! But finally, I was able to allow them to be adopted into they're new homes. The following are all the wonderful and patient people who came to me looking for an addition to they're lives, and I was more then thrilled to provide them these precious little kittens.

This is Erica and Callie AKA Amy. Erica was the first person to adopt one of the kittens. I kept her for over two hours going thru all of the important things that she would have to do because Callie was still being stubborn about eating the canned food....but after talking with her, I knew she was the PERFECT home for her.

Erica emailed me the next morning to tell me how well Callie had done her first night in her new home. I think of Erica as a new friend and will always be thankful to her for giving one of my precious babies a safe and loving home.

This is Trenton James, Erica's son. I just had to include this ADORABLE picture with this story! This little boy adores Callie, look at that beautiful smile!!!!

This very happy girl is Nicole, with her new baby Sybil. Nicole and her fiancé' Scott were looking for a kitten since April....getting disappointed over and over again. Nicole was yearning for a kitten for so long and this match is PERFECT for this couple!

Sybil came to me and her original name was Cuddles...that changed in less then two days!!! hahaha! This kitten is crazy! I described her as an Almond Joy, a little sweet and a little nuts! My fiancé' and I adored her and we wanted someone to embrace her personality because we knew she would be a handful. She was very energetic and would definitely rule whatever house she lived in!

Scott and Nicole just LOVE her and they LOVE her craziness. I cannot thank them for enough for giving this crazy, lovable little girl a loving and safe home. I just fell in love with Nicole and her and I cried when she left with Sybil. Scott lovingly updates me daily with her antics, pictures and video of her just being crazy, lazy and lovable.....how perfect a match!!

This lovely lady is Linda, with her new baby Tim. Tim was the tiniest of the kittens, hence the name Tiny Tim. He was extremely sensitive and shy, so I needed someone to adopt him that had a quiet home and understood how his personality was.

Linda is Scott's Mom and Nicole's future Mom in Law!! When Scott and Nicole showed Linda Sybil's picture on PETFINDER.COM, she fell in love with Tim and wanted to meet him right away. The minute I met her, I knew she would be a patient and loving Mom for Tim and she became his new Mom!

Scott updates me on Tim and how well he has adjusted to his new home. He is playful and confident and very social! Linda just loved him and I thank her so much for keeping him safe and happy!

And this pretty lady is Diane, with her new baby Abigail AKA Anabel. Diane lost her 13 year old cat Ebony to liver failure not long ago. She was lonely and very sad by her loss...she didn't want to replace Ebony, but she needed another kitty to comfort her and keep her company.

Abigail is the lucky one who will receive all the love and affection from this wonderful, sincere woman. Adopting Abigail to Diane was easy...I knew this kitten would be spoiled, loved, pampered, safe and adored for all of her days.

Anabel was my favorite kitten, and she was the toughest one to let go of for me and my fiancé'. I had to be certain that she would remain indoors and be safe for always. Diane patiently assured me that she would take care of her and love her forever. Watching Diane with Abigail...I knew this to be true and thank her so much for giving this special little girl a loving home.

These babies....they all mean the world to me. My peace is knowing that they all have wonderful homes for the rest of they're lives. That they are safe indoors away from harm, they are all neutered and spayed when it's time, they are healthy and happy. Kept warm in the winter, and cool in the summer.

I interview these people, poking into they're lives and asking for personal information. If they are offended, they don't get my kittens. If they lie on they're applications, they don't get my kittens. They don't get my kittens if they allow they're cats outdoors. It's just that simple.

I am grateful for having this organization and other options. I have found that if you are kind and patient, that kind and patient people will understand why you are so careful about where these precious kittens go and in the end....they will be lucky enough to have one or two of them come into they're lives and bring joy, laughter and unconditional love to them for many years.

Thank you all!

~Layla's Story~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This is Layla.
Layla was hit by a car and hurt badly. Her injuries were going to be very costly for her family, so they did the responsible and loving act of relinquishing ownership to ACO Paul Rose at the Cumberland Animal Shelter. He in turn contacted Dr. Joyce Gifford at Abbott Valley Veterinary Center, who decided to see what could be done about raising some funds for Layla's expensive surgery. PETS of NEW ENGLAND began a fundraiser for Layla via networking thru hundreds of emails and word of mouth. So many thoughtful and kind people donated funds to help this special little girl get her the surgery she needed!

Almost all of the funds were raised for
Layla and she was scheduled for surgery.
Dr. David Clark did a fantastic job with Layla's surgery and she was finally on the road to recovering and being a happy and healthy little dog once again! Thank you so much Dr. Clark!! Layla was also spayed and all her shots were given.

PETS of NEW ENGLAND "adopted" Layla and was now responsible for finding a safe, loving and forever home for her.

Michele, who fell in love with Layla from the moment she set eyes on her, decided she and her boyfriend Jay would be the lucky people who Layla would love forever! Watching Michele and Layla together as if they have known each other all of they're lives, we all know that Layla will always be in safe, loving and comforting arms for all of her days.

We are all so very grateful to all of the kind and wonderful people who generously donated to Layla's Fund. Special thanks to all of the Staff and Dr.'s at Abbott Valley Veterinary Center for giving Layla lots of love and attention.

Thank you to ACO Paul Rose for always making sure his top priority is what is best for the animals. Thank you also to all the wonderful clients of Abbott Valley Veterinary Center and Grooming for all the donations to "Layla's Fund Box" on the counter in the lobby. Thanks to all the kind and generous people at Cumberland Town Hall. High five's to all the guys and gals in my group, RICOA (Rhode Island Chevy Owners Association.)

And last but not least, to all my wonderful friends and animal lovers who responded to my personal plea's to help Layla. You are all always there when I truly need you.

My heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.....

Fondly,

~Orphaned Spring Kittens!~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This is another two litters of kittens that were orphaned and brought to me....all healthy and eating well. Six are from one litter, two from the other...just a few weeks apart. They ate every four hours for five weeks, growing like weeds!

I just cannot get enough of this...some call me crazy, I call it destiny. The rewards I have received are many and I am grateful for all of the experiences I have been given. I always remember the one's I have lost and I mourn each and every one of them. It's the ones that have survived against all odds and found wonderful homes...that is the ultimate gift to me for my time, my effort, my devotion and my love.

This is Rachel. She is a girl scout who I had the pleasure of working with so she could earn her badge merits while giving love and attention to the kittens. Rachel and her Mom came faithfully each week and stayed hours, just loving and holding all the kittens. Rachel had a towel drive at her school and donated kitten formula that she bought with her own allowance money. I have found a forever friend in Rachel and her Mom. I am so very proud of her!

This is my wonderful and special friend, Mark. Mark is a true lover of animals and spent hours with me here, helping me with all the kittens while I fed them and cleaned up after them. Mark and his friend Ed gathered towels and brought them here. Mark's time and kind words comforted me while I was feeling exhausted, night after night. He took hours of video while I fed them all and while they played, and hundreds of pictures. I am indebted to him for his friendship, but most of all his undying love and devotion to all the animals that he has touched in his life.

This is Natalie and her boyfriend Kevin with they're two little boys, Manny and Calvin. These two were the youngest boys who were about two weeks behind the older ones. Natalie patiently waited for three weeks for me to litter train them and wean them...visiting them was hard on her, especially when she had to leave here without them. These little one's were closest to my heart. It took a lot of time and a lot of sleepless nights to keep these two safe and healthy and I really wanted to make sure that Kevin and Natalie knew how important it was to keep them safe for all they're days. Natalie was kind and so helpful in making me realize that the two of them were the most PERFECT home for these two little boys. I am so thrilled and honored they have given my kittens a wonderful, safe and loving home. Look at that smile on Natalie's face!

This is Danielle and her little man, Domino. Danielle's brother Joey adopted Cinnamon from me last year out of a litter of three orange kittens that I had gotten at about two weeks old. When I ended up with these guys, I knew that Danielle was still looking for a black and white kitten and contacted her Mom. Denise did confirm that they were still looking for a kitten and came right away to pick out one for Danielle! Domino and Cinnamon are bonded and forever buddies now. Domino sleeps on Cinnamon, who has gladly accepted his new friend into his new home! I cannot thank Denise enough for her kindness and generosity. I know that both these little guys will have a loving and safe home for all of they're days.

This is Sharon and her little guy, Lefty. This little guy has the BIGGEST paws and the most beautiful and expressive face of all of the kittens. Sharon is a school teacher who was brought to me by my new little friend, Rachel. Rachel told everyone in her school that my kittens needed good homes and Sharon was ready to add another addition to her home. She has an older kitty who had lost his friend of many years to illness and he was lonely....we know that Lefty will be a good friend to him for many years. My thanks to Sharon for giving this little guy a wonderful and loving home.

These smiling and happy guys are Ken and Ron with they're two little boys, Samson and Sawyer! These two had recently lost they're kitty to illness and they were both ready to have a new little one in they're lives again...they had of course decided on TWO! Ken picked Samson right away, but Ron had a tough time deciding with all the adorable faces who he wanted. Finally, he picked Sawyer who kept on coming up to him and demanding he give him attention...they were all paired up and ready for a new and wonderful life with these two special men. My thanks is to Diane for thinking of these two in they're time of loss and bringing them to me. Knowing these two men is a reminder of how much love such a little one can give, and now they have two!

And these two beautiful little girls are Isabeau and Mouse...named from my favorite movie, LadyHawke. They have found they're way into my heart and into my fiancé's heart. This year unlike last, no one wanted females and surprisingly and sadly enough, no one picked them. So they stayed... I think we'll keep them.....

~Lucy~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This is beautiful Lucy! Lucy's irresponsible owner was breeding her with pitbulls to produce very large, very strong dogs....After she was caught running the streets with the other dog, she was brought back to the shelter AGAIN and stayed there for 7 weeks waiting for her owner to return for her. He could not afford the fines and boarding fee's to get her, so THANKFULLY he finally surrendered her to the town and she became ours!
Lucy has been adopted by a wonderful girl Jill, who is a vet tech at an animal hospital and who had recently lost her bulldog to cancer unfortunately. We had initially thought Lucy may be pregnant, but after tests confirmed she is NOT!! YAY!!!
She will be spoiled, safe and above all loved for all of her days. Thanks to Senior ACO Richard Starnino for making the right choice and deciding to give Lucy to Jill. Thank you to all my wonderful volunteers who walked her, sat with her and talked with her while she sat waiting for someone to come for her. Thank you to Paul for giving her the adorable name!
Thank you Jill and Michael for adopting her!

~Simba~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This is Simba with his new family, Deb and Harold.
Simba was a stray, who had found himself on the busiest street in the town, Mineral Spring Avenue. He was running in and out of traffic, and by the time the Animal Control Officer finally got to him, he was hit by a car. The young girl behind the car that hit Simba, stopped and sat in the middle of the road with him until help arrived. Firefighters were coming from a meeting, and noticed what had happened...they surrounded her and Simba until they could get him stable enough to get into the cruiser.
Simba's injuries to him were severe. The ACO rushed him to the emergency hospital where they told him that he would need major surgery to correct his hips and back legs. They made him comfortable and we waited for two days to see if an owner would come forward...but no one did, and Simba needed surgery or he would have to be euthanized. I then stayed out of work for 2 days, begging for money from every organization in RI. Everyone was so kind and generous, and willing to help this wonderful dog who deserved to live. In 2 days, we had enough money to get him the surgery and correct his hips and his back legs. The hospital donated money to his bill also, which was a blessing to all of us.

Simba came back to the shelter after his surgery, and stayed with us until he was healthy enough to be adopted. One night a nice couple came in, looking for a cat. We didn't have any at the time, and when they were walking back from the cat room, they noticed Simba and fell in love immediately with him. For two weeks they visited him, while they had they're yard fenced in for him and while he was finishing recovering. Finally, Simba went to his new home where he is now VERY spoiled and VERY much loved. Deb and Harold moved to Texas recently, and emailed me to let me know that Simba is loving his new yard and assured me that he is being loved and taken care of.

Simba beat the odds and made it. He is now living a wonderful life, with a wonderful family who love him very much....

~Nikita and her puppies~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This beautiful girl is Nikita! She came to the shelter a stray, wandering the streets hungry and alone. We looked for her owner for weeks, but surprisingly no one claimed her. She was the best dog we had ever had in all the years I have been at the shelter.....unbelievable dog. What a love she was, so well behaved and friendly.

PETS of NEW ENGLAND was planning on having her spayed because she is a purebred and we did not want anyone breeding her after they adopted her, but Nikita had a little surprise for all of us....she was PREGNANT!!

After having 6 beautiful puppies on November 4th and 6 weeks later, she was ready to go to her new home. She has found a wonderful family who love her very much and have taught her to walk on a leash while walking with the baby each morning. Nikita is a very lucky girl. All Nikita's puppies, including Moose (pictured below) who was the first born have gotten safe and loving homes just in time for Christmas!

Thanks to Kerrie and family for giving Nikita a wonderful home and the second chance she deserved.
Thanks to all the wonderful people who have given all of the puppies a safe and loving forever home.
Thanks to all who donated blankets, towels, food and toys.
Thank you to all my volunteers for giving the puppies lots of love and attention and especially for walking Nikita and giving her a well deserved break from the puppies.
And a special thanks to Richard, Ernie and Darren for cleaning up LOTS of puppy poop and messes!! Thanks guys!

~Tyson~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

One day while I was on the phone with the Animal Control Officer on duty, an older man came barging into the shelter office yelling he had just witnessed someone throwing a cat crate out of a moving car. He was very upset, and the Animal Control Officer had to calm him down enough to find out where this crate was thrown out.

The Animal Control Officer followed the man down to the place where he saw the crate being thrown out and it was a steep embankment off a quiet road, not far from the shelter. He heard a cat crying and climbed down to the crate where he found that a cat was indeed in the crate, and was very upset. He brought the cat back to the shelter, feeding him and cleaning him up. But, after such a terrible ordeal, the cat was very agitated and was scratching and trying to bite. Days went by, and then turned into months and Tyson didn't come around much from when he first came to the shelter. He didn't like many people, and only allowed you to pet him for a certain amount of time before getting upset again.

We knew he had been through so much, and he just couldn't get over it...but he was a good cat, and he deserved a second chance but to find someone to take him would be difficult. Especially knowing he bit and scratched. One of the volunteers had a friend, who owned a farm and needed a cat for they're barn...Tyson would be PERFECT for this! He would be happy, and alive and away from most human contact. It was perfect.

Tyson is doing just fine, and living life on a farm. He spends most his time in the tack room with the horses and he has become very friendly with his new owners, who just love him for who he is. Tyson deserved a second chance, and he found the perfect place to live the rest of his days....

~The Kittens~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

To all the kittens that I've bottle-fed throughout the years. Against all odds, most of them made it and found loving and safe homes. Some, hours old, umbilical cord still attached and dehydrated...barely holding onto life. Some, days old but strong willed enough to fight for they're life and make it through high temperatures and everything else that they were susceptible and vulnerable too.

I will always remember the one's I saved, and grateful for the experience and the memories that it's given me.

~Felicia~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

When this beautiful Cocker Spaniel came to us, her owner had passed away and she was petrified of everyone. Unfortunately, her elderly owner was unable to take care of her properly, and fed her just Cheerios. Felicia was tied to a table in the kitchen and unable to go to other rooms in the house. Everytime someone approached her, she would pee and cower in the corner in pure fear. She was terrified of everyone. We gave her a small crate with a blanket and she slept and stayed in it, for security and a feeling of being safe from others.

A gentle man came in looking for a lab or lab mix that he could take on hikes, and canoe rides in the park. We didn't have anything at the shelter fitting that description, but when he walked past Felicia, something made him stop and ask about her. He asked if he may visit her, and spend sometime with her....and he did. He came every night after work for weeks, until she trusted him enough to come out of the crate. Still then, she pee'd.. afraid of him. He never gave up on her, and kept coming to visit her until she was comfortable enough to come up to him and allow him to pet her...without running away or peeing. It took weeks, and he never gave up on her. He adopted her and he also became a volunteer for our shelter.

She lives with him and a her buddy, a Great Dane who he also rescued from the shelter. Felicia deserved a life, free from fear and a second chance to be happy for the rest of her days....and she found just that.

~Opal~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

The owner of this precious, beautiful cat came into the shelter one Sunday afternoon with her, and her 4 beautiful kittens in a cardboard box. She was crying, saying her boyfriend would no longer allow her to keep them, and if she did she would be kicked out....Opal was over a year old, and had never seen a veterinarian. She had no shots, and was never even wormed.

I explained to her owner, that this was a shelter and that the kittens should stay in a place where they wouldn't be around other strange cats. She insisted on leaving them all there, walking away without any consequences to her irresponsible actions.

Opal and the kittens stayed with us, eating, happy and healthy. We all loved them, and enjoyed them.

Opal surprisingly enough, was adopted just days after her owner turned her in. We were very happy about this, knowing the kittens would get a good home faster because they were kittens. Adults take longer to be adopted, and we were all thrilled that Opal had a wonderful, safe and loving new home.

Then a few days later, a strange cat entered the shelter...found a stray. Scruffy and dirty, she sat in the cage right above Opal's kittens. Within two days, that cat died...and so did Opals' beautiful babies, one at a time. All of Feline Distemper.....

We were all devastated at the loss of her beautiful and healthy kittens, We will remember them, always....

But as we grieved for the kittens, we also rejoiced and were also so very grateful that Opal did get adopted and now lives a good life, indoors and taken care of. She is spayed and up to date on her shots, and will be safe and happy for the rest of her days.

~Jet~
RIP Jet  10-17-09

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This beautiful shepherd belonged to a very irresponsible owner, who for 10 years had him tied to a tree in her backyard. Jet never knew what a set of stairs were. He didn't know what the sound of a phone ringing or a blow dryer was. Instead, he lived his life outside in the winter and summer, each year...over and over for 10 years. His collar was too small and it grew into his neck, causing constant pain and infection to him.

After 10 years of trying to get the owner to turn him into the shelter, she decided to give him to us because he was too old and she had run into some problems with the law. When Jet finally came to us, he was in pain and riddled with arthritis from laying out on the cold ground year after year. One of our volunteers, and also PETS of NEW England's Vice President Katie Cabral, grew fond of him and showed him what it was to be loved and to be safe. She taught him trust through they're friendship. Katie walked Jet for hours....just allowing him to walk wherever he wished and smell all the new smells that he could never reach when he was tied to a tree in a small backyard.
A friend of my fiancé had just lost her beloved dog of many years and she was grieving the loss of him. Her other dog was mourning the loss of him also, and she was sure he should have a companion and friend. She didn't want a young dog, or puppy because the other dog was older. After hearing of Jet, and his story she decided to meet and decide with the help of her friend, if Jet would be the dog that they yearned for and a friend for her remaining dog.

Jet went home that night with his new owners. Watching him drive off and setting off for a new and wonderful life, I cried. He left the shelter, and the life that he had barely lived for 10 long years far behind him and never to ever have to look back on the heartache, the loneliness and suffering he endured for so long.

Jet is adored and spoiled. He is loved and above all he is safe from harm. He is warm in the winter and cooled in the summer. He has toys, so many toys. And he has his dog friend, Mikey. Now, when I think of Jet, I think of not how long he had suffered, but how much unconditional love he will receive in the time he has left.

**Mary, Goliath (in crate), Linda and Kerwin**

Kerwin and Goliath were taken from the largest colony of feral cats that I have ever worked with in 25 years of doing this....With the help of my dedicated trapper Brenda and loyal foster Mom Diane, we were able to trap and socialize these beautiful kittens who had known only living in the woods and sleeping on the ground, to being loved and taken care.

After many months of trying to find the perfect home, these two wonderful women came forward and realized how precious and special these kittens were and decided to adopt them into they're home. Although Goliath (renamed Samson) was unable to be handled, they still adopted him so that he could be kept together with his brother Kerwin. Linda and her Mother Mary have given these little boys a home they so deserved. They will live together, be safe, warm, fed, loved and live like most kitties do.

For the rest of the kittens in the colony, life for them is still laying on the ground and eating food left by "feeders". My goal is to find homes for all the kittens in this colony, to give them the chance they deserve and to live as kittens do and to grow into well adjusted, indoor only happy adults. There is still so much work to do, but happy endings like this is what keeps me going forward each day, with a goal for ALL of these special colony kittens.

  • To the "feeders" of the colony....Thank you for your daily dedication and love for all these cats and kittens.
  • My heartfelt thanks to Diane, Mary and Linda.
  • And to Orry, who I never had the pleasure of knowing....A special kitty who has gone on and allowed Linda a place in her heart for two special kitties. My thanks and much peace to you.
Larna~

**UNO, POPCORN and GROVER**

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

I bottle-fed these three kittens from 1 week old. They're Mom was killed, and they were brought to me. These are the wonderful people that I chose to adopt them. I am extremely careful about the homes where the kittens go. Kittens grow into cats, and live long lives....I look for people who will be responsible, loving and keep them safe from harm for all of they're days. I have found 3 very special homes for my special kittens. I am forever grateful to all of them.

Below is Danielle and I with UNO! Uno was the one who was first in everything the kittens did! He was the sassy and adorable kitten that ruled the entire litter! Uno was the one I most enjoyed spending time with because he was so much a true kitten. I know Danielle will be the Mommy who will embrace his spirit and energy for a long time! I loved this little girls excitement and saw the joy when she picked him up to make him her own. Thank you Danielle, Pat and Darren.

Below are Joey and his sister Danielle with POPCORN! Joey was to be Popcorn's new Daddy and he was very excited about him becoming a part of they're lives! Popcorn had the personality of the other two in the litter....spirited, but content to cuddle too.

Thank you to Denise, and to Danielle for showing Joey how to hold Popcorn so he wouldn't be afraid. And to Joey, for being such a careful and loving new Dad!

Below is Mike and Kate with Grover, my fuzzy little boy! Grover was the only kitten in the litter who LOVED to be kissed on the face and cuddle. He will always be content to be in a lap, being petted and purring. I know that Kate would provide all this attention to this little boy, she took the day after she adopted him off of work, to do just that.....They will be perfect new parents to this special guy. Thank you both for so eagerly and lovingly giving my fuzzy little guy a safe and loving home.

**CHASE**

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This is Chase, a 5 year old Newfie. Chase's Mom loved him SO very much, but she could not provide the attention and time he needed. He was not getting enough exercise and became extremely overweight, which for a Newfie is not good for their hips.

Laurie, his owner just adored him but she knew he needed more, and with my sensitivity to her love for him, I explained that loving him would be giving a home to him in which he was shown a lot of attention and affection and given daily exercise.

With Laurie's love for Chase, she allowed Gale to foster him until we found him a home in which he would be loved, exercised, and most importantly shown lots of attention which he so craved. With Gale's help and her love for Newfies (she has 2), we found a wonderful and loving home for Chase!

PETS of NEW ENGLAND neutered Chase at our ever dedicated Hoffman Animal Hospital and he is now with a loving family who will show him the attention and love he needs for all his days!

A note from Tina:

Larna,

Chase is doing very well. I thought he would be more sluggish or in pain after his neuter, but he doesn't seem to be. You are welcome to all the pictures that I have sent you. Thank you for everything, he came home smelling so good with his Halloween bandana. My husband said you were very sweet as I could already tell from our phone conversations. Well, I will keep you posted.
                                                   Thanks again,
                                                               Tina

*Thanks to Laurie, for loving Chase enough to let go of him and allowing us to step forward and find a new life for Chase.

*Thanks to Gale Steffie for opening her home to Chase. With her love for Newfie's showing through, she allowed me the time I needed to help him.

*To Hoffman Animal Hospital...Thank you for making accommodations for Chase and making him comfortable while he was recovering from his neuter. Your dedication and attention to PETS of NEW ENGLAND again gives me the chance to help Chase and so many others like him. Without Jo, Dr. Houston, Dr. B, Mike and the vet tech's, I could never do what I have for responsible animal owners, irresponsible owners and all the stray cats of Lil General this summer.

*To Tina and Joel....Big thanks to you both and to your family for opening your heart and your home to Chase. Without you, this could have not happened for Chase. I cannot thank you enough for giving him a new life!

Larna~
